If you love the idea of starting your own business but don’t have any funding, then bootstrapping is the answer. Starting a business on a shoestring is a great way to work from home, create a new stream of income or start that side business you’ve always dreamt of.
Tip #1 Do something you love
If you’re bootstrapping, always pick a business you absolutely love because you’re going to live and breathe it 24/7 while you’re starting out. What you don’t have in money, you’ll make up for in time, energy, blood, sweat and tears!
Tip #2 Get online
Typically, the only items you’ll need are a computer, an internet connection and a phone. Even small, local businesses need a website or social media presence. Without an online presence you simply don’t exist. One of your few start-up costs will be registering a website domain and ordering business cards
Tip #3 Use what you have
Plan to use existing resources as much as possible. This is why so many start-ups start on their kitchen table (think Anita Roddick of the Body Shop) or in their bedrooms, garden sheds or the alcove under the stairs.
Tip #4 Promote your business for free
In interviews with successful entrepreneurial women who’ve started a home business on a shoestring, one key strategy came up time and time again: Networking. No longer the domain of sombre men in suits, networking is a powerful way to build up your contacts, get referrals, promote your brand and find potential customers and business partners. If you’re bootstrapping you have to get out and connect with people.
Tip #5 Get social media savvy
Leverage the power of social media to build your business and find paying customers. It can be labour intensive, but social media is a very effective (and low cost) way of getting your business known. Use tools such as Hootsuite to automate your postings.
Tip #6 Be focused and consistent
Pick your favourite 2 or 3 social media platforms and focus only on those. Choose from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, StumbleUpon or Google+ and share useful tips, information and advice. Consistency is key.
Within your social media platforms, find groups relevant to your business, engage with members, and contribute to the discussions. If you’re helpful and responsive people will want to do business with you.
Tip #7 Spread the word
Talk to everyone about your business. Word of Mouth referrals are one of the best, no cost ways to market your business. You never know when you might be talking to a potential customer, partner or supplier, or who they might know.
Tip #8 Make the sale
Cashflow is king so focus all your time and energy on making those all-important first sales. Prove and perfect your business model before making any major investment. Start small and test your ideas before developing new products, leasing a shop front or investing in new furniture or designer business cards.
Tip #9 Automate
Automate your business so you make money while you sleep. This might sound too good to be true, but using free tools such as MailChimp, ClickBank and WordPress allow you to send automatic emails to new subscribers, sell products and fulfil orders online, and build your customer database, all on autopilot.
Tip #10 You’re virtually there
For creative businesses, consider selling your products through “no” and “low” cost virtual shops such as Etsy.com, Ebay or Shopify. A powerful strategy is to promote your goods to a wide audience through Facebook or Pinterest, then direct customers to your virtual store to purchase their items.

Kids Returning to School - Tips For Parents
It's nearly the end of the school holidays and for some parents it can be pretty daunting making sure your kids are settled and prepared to go back to school. Here are just a few simple tips for parents that they may find useful:
1) Do not leave it to the last minute to buy uniform and stationary for your children. It's best to do all this in advance so you can enjoy the rest of the school holiday together having fun rather than darting around all the shops like a headless chicken. It will be less stressful for you when you're organised.
2) If your children are starting a new school, it would be a good idea for you to take them there before school term begins so your children will be more at ease and they'll soon get used to making this new journey.
3) When it's getting near to term time, start the school bedtime routine with them so that it'll be quicker and much easier for them make the transition to settle down when school starts.
4) Always praise your kids, tell them that you are very proud of them. All kids want to hear that they are loved from their parents it gives them security especially during a time where they're afraid of starting a new school and new surroundings.
5) If you notice that your children is feeling especially anxious or worried about going back to school, spend time with them to allow them to share what's troubling them. All they need is some reassurance that everything will be okay and there's nothing to worry about because you will be there for them.

TAKE TIME OUT FOR YOURSELF
Being a mom is tough... being a stepmom is really tough. You want to keep your husband happy, his kids happy, your kids happy (if you have some biological kids) and usually anyone else that comes within 3 feet of you happy. Admit it... you're the one in the family that's taking care of everyone - except yourself.
If you keep running and running, making sure that the whole world is happy, and forget yourself, you are going to burn out and be worthless to your family and to yourself. If you truly want to love your family, you need to learn how to love yourself.
Time to Relax
How do you unwind from a busy day? Is it by taking a bath, reading a favorite novel, drinking a cup of herbal tea or a glass of red wine? Do you loosen up after a workout at the gym or a walk through the neighborhood? If you are saying to yourself that you don't have time for these things- you're wrong. You don't have time to skip relaxing. Figure out what makes you calm and make room for these activities in your day.Even if you have to write them on your "to do" list- just do it.
Time to Rejuvenate
What gives you strength? Is it talking on the phone to a friend, going to a funny movie, or shopping at the mall? Figure out what activities you truly enjoy doing and make time to do these things, too. Figure out a time, at least 1-2 times a month, to schedule something special- just for you.
Time for Respect
If you are always the one saying, "Go ahead, I'll clean up" or "Don't worry, I didn't want any- you can have a second helping" or "You can have this seat- I can see if I turn my head, at an angle, I can see, barely, around the really tall man in front of us"... How can others respect you if you don't respect yourself?
At birthdays, when your family asks, "What can we get you?" - think about it, and give them a thoughtful list. You are a precious, unique person. Treat yourself that way! Do you want your daughter to treat herself as someone who always comes in last place, gives up the good seats, the last bite of special food? No, of course not.
Time to Remember
Create a box, drawer or file to keep remembrances. Put cards (birthday, mother's day, anniversary, thank-you notes) - anything you receive, into this box. If someone gives you a compliment, write it down and put it in your remembrance box. Periodically, go through your box and read these compliments and praises.
Time for Yourself
You're worth it! Make time for yourself. You will feel stronger physically, mentally and emotionally after you have regular times to renew your spirit, soul and body. Your family will appreciate a stronger, healthier, and happier you.

Winter Tips for Keeping Your Skin Youthful
The air in winter is not only cold but dry and so can dry out skin. The top tip for keeping skin youthful during the winter is to keep it hydrated. Drying out not only leaves the skin feeling uncomfortable and itchy but can exacerbate conditions like eczema, a terribly itchy inflammation and rash of the skin. The radiator heat that seems a relief after coming in from a cold winter's day can dry the skin out even more People who are used to moisturizing the skin of their face will need a different sort of moisturizer for winter weather. In winter, the moisturizer should have an oil base because the oil sets up a layer on the skin that will lock in moisture. However, the person should be sure to buy an oil that doesn't clog the pores. These oils include mineral oil, avocado oil and almond oil. Vegetable shortening and the very popular shea butter shouldn't be used because they simply clog the pores. Skin lotions that have humectants can also be used, as humectants will attract moisture. Humectants are substances like glycerine and fruit acids.
A person should also make sure that his or her feet are moisturized. During the winter, petroleum jelly and glycerine are good for this. Dead skin should also be removed from the feet regularly. Dead skin blocks moisturizer.
The person should also be careful to put on sunscreen, for the sun is just as dangerous during the winter as it is during the summer. Indeed, thanks to the reflection of snow, it might be even more dangerous. A sunscreen of at least 30 SPF should be applied to the face or any other exposed areas of the body about a half an hour before a person goes outside, and then reapplied if the person is going to be outdoors for a long time. The hands especially need to be kept moisturized in cold, dry weather because the skin on them is thinner than the skin on the face. Putting on gloves is a good idea if a person needs to go out into the cold. However, the gloves shouldn't get wet. Wet gloves cause the skin to split and itch and might even worsen eczema. Socks should also stay dry.
A humidifier is also a good thing to have in the home, as their task is to inject moisture into the air in the form of a soothing mist. The ideal way to humidify a home or office is to put small humidifiers all through the building.
People should also avoid subjecting their skin to chemical peels or astringents during the winter, because these substances take oils out of the skin. Milk cleansers and alcohol-free toners are much better.
Very hot baths should also be avoided because, ironically, they're dehydrating. A person should enjoy a warm bath. The bath should last only for a few minutes, however. If the skin is itchy, a handful of oatmeal can be added to the water.

Say No to New Years Resolutions - Set Great Goals Instead
The new year is almost upon us and just like every year some people are excited about what next year has to offer and many more are not sure what life will throw at them and are just willing to let the chips fall where they may.
There is a better way.
The way I start each year is by looking back, looking at where I am today and finally looking at where I want to be tomorrow and then creating a plan to make a better tomorrow happen.
With goal setting most people just look at what they want and then create a plan to get there. My method of life planning is much better as it does not just look at myself as a superman and allow me to collapse as soon as any problem gets in the way of my goal.
To start you must have a notebook and realize that this notebook will be your companion for the next year. Give yourself an hour to get started and know that you will likely be sitting down a few times over the next few days, if New Years Day comes and goes while you are in the midst of this process do not worry. Even though we always look at new years day as the switch that begins a new year remember that you are creating a map and a route that is much more important and long lasting than the flip of a calendar, the end of a day, or a fuzzy idea in the middle of the night whose idea of importance is reflected only by the thoughts and actions of a very few minutes.
To do this life planning correctly you must begin by looking back at the last year. Sit down and ask yourself the following questions.
What did I plan to do this year? Write this list by writing down one at a time with a couple lines between them. Look back and see all of the things that seemed important for a short or long time and write them down in a big list. Did you include health and exercise, spiritual goals, financial and career goals, holiday plans, leisure plans?
What happened to these ideas and plans? Did you complete one or more of these things on the list? With the one that were completed, great. For the ones that you didn't complete, great as well. This exercise will allow you to see from a bit of distance what was important and what was not important apparently.
Now for each of the items in the list that you completed look at the obstacles that you had and how you over came them. You will probably find that for your accomplishments you were in one way or another motivated to really complete and not just "wishing" to finish. Also go to the things that did not work out. What was the level of priority and what kind of obstacles stopped you? Are these long term plans that can't be finished? Were you just hoping to get these to work? Write out some detail on each of these things on the list and reflect on how you felt about the idea of each of these one year ago today.
Remember that every goal should be a S.M.A.R.T. goal. That is that every goal must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time Bound.
Now you have a nice basis for building on what you have now and what will be the highest priority plans for next year. You are going to find a few common threads from the last year. Maybe you procrastinate. Perhaps you are unrealistic with your time and resources. Likely you wanted certain things that were not that important to you at this time in your life. For the things that you did accomplish you are going to see that you needed to complete them either for your job, your ego or for people that rely on you. You may know now how I will have you look at the next year.
Create goals for what is really important and do not just put lofty goals that are not critically important to you. The real reason that most people fail with their new years resolutions is that they are not important enough for them and they are really just goals that sound good at the time. You probably see from your accomplishments over the last year that the things that you did right were not planned on new years eve but instead in March or June or even November, so if you want to succeed then you will need to find those things that would make enough of a difference in your life that you will not let any of the obstacles that get in your way to stop you.
Now for planning for next year!
Look at you list of things that you did not accomplish this year. Are any of them really important? Are there any that you can accomplish right now for a quick win to start the year with? More importantly get the ones that you did not complete and are not important enough and just put a line through them in your list. Many of us hold on to goals that we are not going to ever complete as they may be lofty but are never really that important to us and just take some of our waking time. Some scientists say that almost all of our thoughts today are just thoughts recycled from yesterday, if these thoughts are not going to do us any good then dump them so that you can free up some space in your head for more things that are really important instead. After you have gone through your list look at the following list and see if there are anymore things that fall into what should and will be done.
Spiritual Goals
Health and Fitness Goals
Monetary Goals
Career Goals
Family Goals
Entertainment and Leisure Goals
I find that most people that try to make goals or that come up with systems tend to be very narrow focused.
I have heard people say no more than three goals should ever be on your list and another that says that you should have 101 goals. Your list is yours and you now have to go to your list and figure out the following.
How long will it take to complete this goal/outcome?
How important is this goal to me to complete?
What will happen if I do not achieve this goal?
What are the roadblocks that I can expect to have crop up because of my weaknesses in the past?
What will I get if I complete this, what is the reward?
Are there any goals that I should achieve first to get this one done?
These are big questions and are the questions that never get asked when we just jump at making a new years resolution. Answer these questions for each of your goals and don't really belabor the questions or you will never get them done.
Let's say now that you have 10 things that you want to complete by the end of January, 30 things that you want to complete by the end of the year and another 10 for the end of next year. Now you have to have some kind of action plan to get it all completed. Most of getting a goal completed is to get your head aligned with what you want to get, to do this make sure that you have a road map to completing each of your items and then your mind can really believe these things possible. After you have done this pull out your daytimer or at least some kind of sheet of paper and list down each goal and when a certain part of it is due so that all of those things in life that get in the way won't stop you for these.
Celebrate your accomplishments, share your dreams, and always make this day the day that will make tomorrow even better.
